I’m talking about when it comes me personally, not my business.
I don’t want to have a house on a hill in a gated community or drive foreign cars.
I don’t need a theater room or an underground aquarium. I don’t have fancy art or Rolexes. I don’t wear designer clothes.
There is nothing wrong with having any of those things but they have no value to me, and that’s not what I spend my money on.
I like to eat out. I like to travel. I like to adventure. I want to see live bands from my favorite musicians and run a marathon in Switzerland. Maybe watch a professional sports game. Or take a surf and snow trip.
I really, really like doing those things with family and friends. That is my favorite.
Speaking of snow trips, we just had the best one of our lives.
You know when you have a memory that’s so good, just replaying a second of it makes you smile? That was this trip.
Our family and good friends all having the most epic time ever.
I think about that phrase, “time of our lives.” How much money is your time worth? Do you spend money on things or on your time?
Looking back at that trip, I really couldn’t put a dollar amount on it. It was like that old Mastercard commercial; Priceless.
I invest 90% of my money in intangible experiences. The ROI is 0%.
I’m not irresponsible. I make sure my bills are paid, my family is taken care of and I have enough investments for the future.
But I don’t spend money on stuff that is not going to matter when I’m dying.
I’m not going to say, “I wish I got a bigger house and fancy cars.”
I’m probably going to think about how many cool things I did with the people I love and the awesome experiences I had.
Because everything else isn’t going to matter.
